The Woodridge wrestling team made history yesterday at the sectional tournament at Northwest High School, capturing the program’s second-ever sectional championship — and the first since 2002.
In a total team effort, the Bulldogs battled through a competitive field to bring home the team title, showcasing depth, resilience, and the hard work that has defined their season.
Leading the way were two sectional champions:
- 🥇 Gavin Genovese
- 🥇 Bryce Waddell
Their individual titles set the tone for a dominant day on the mat, but this championship was powered by contributions throughout the lineup.
In addition to the two champions, Woodridge will send six more wrestlers to next week’s district tournament: Landen Wojcichowski, Shriyan Rai, Michael Fouts, Nathaniel Lahoski, Freddie Pettit and Jacob Igleheart.
The Bulldogs also had three alternates earn podium spots and remain ready if called upon: Juwan Siler, Rylan West and Noah Parker.
This sectional championship reflects the commitment of the entire program — wrestlers, coaches, and families — who have poured countless hours into preparation and competition. Next up, the Bulldogs head to the district tournament on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 at Kenston High School.
Congratulations to our coaches and wrestlers on an outstanding accomplishment!
